Use of my website is subject to this privacy policy.
Table of Contents
1. Comments
When visitors leave comments on my website, data is collected in the comments form, as well as the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
An anonymised string created from your email address may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it, subject to the Gravatar privacy policy. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
2. Cookies
If you leave a comment on my website, you may opt in to saving your name, email address, and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment.
If you visit a login page, a cookie will be set to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data.
If you log in, several cookies will be set to save your login information and your screen display choices. If you select the remember option, your login will persist for a temporary period. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.
If you edit or publish a post or page, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the ID of the post or page you just edited.
Other cookies may get set for other purposes, these are described below. You can opt out of specific categories of cookies being set by using the cookie control, which appears at the bottom left of the website.
3. Data Retention
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is to recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
If you register on the website, personal information provided is also stored in your user profile. You can see, edit, or delete your personal information at any time (excluding your username).
4. Data Rights
If you have an account on this website or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data held about you, including any data you have provided. You can also request that any personal data held is erased. This does not include any data I am obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Note that I previously published my email address here to receive requests of this nature, however, due to the amount of spam received, this made monitoring for these requests extremely difficult, therefore, I recommend you connect with me on LinkedIn and include details in the initial message of your request to receive or erase your data.
5. Embedded Content
Posts and pages on this website may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, etc). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content.
6. Media
If you upload images to my website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data included. Visitors to the website may download and extract location data from images on the website.
